URL - Uniform Resource Locator which a formatted text string used by Web browsers, email clients and other software to identify a network resource.
URL consists of three parts:
- Network Protocol
- Host Name/Address
- File or Resource location
Example:
protocol://host/location
Typical URL protocols:
- http://
- ftp://
- mailto://
Absolute URL - full URL featuring all three substrings.
Relative URL - used within web pages and a few other programs and can contain only one location element.
