Definition of Service

Category:ITSM -> Basic Definitions

A service is a way to deliver the value to customers via cooperation with them, aimed towards getting final results, which the customers wish to achieve without having specific expenses or risk exposure.

A service provider is responsible for compliance of its resources to agreed customer’s quality criteria. The resources increase productivity and decrease limitations of the customer.

As a result, the customer can focus on its foremost activities, delegating to a service provider only those tasks, which it can handle better than the customer. And for the customer, in most cases, it is more profitable than developing appropriate competencies and acquiring necessary resources by itself.

Example

When you need to reach the city from the airport, there is no need to buy a car and have a driver’s license. Utilising a taxi service in this situation becomes more appropriate in the way of saving time, money and personal energy.
